.

.

.

Requirement Number 4
(continued)

How to Write a Flood Risk Mitigation Plan

feasible action to pursue. The Plan can identify any type of mitigation
project, however, the FMA grant program will only fund the following
types of mitigation projects:

I) Acquisition of insured structures and underlying real
property.
2) Relocation of insured structures to non hazard-prone
sites.
3) Demolition and removal of insured structures on
acquired or restricted real property,
4) Elevation of insured residential structures.
5) Elevation or dry floodproofing ,of insured non-
residential structures.
6) Other activities that bring insured structures into
compliance with floodplain management requirements.
7) Minor physical flood mitigation projects that reduce
localized flooding problems.

Although the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program limits acquisition
and relocation activities to those structures that are insured under the
National Flood Insurance Program, other grant programs (for example,
the Community Development Block Grant program) may provide
funding to acquire or relocate the remaining properties in a certain area
that are not insured, Thus, the Plan should not limit activities to only
"insured" structures as reflected in the list above. For example:

Examole

Miti~ation Actions Considered:

I. Relocation or acquisition and demolition of residential and
commercial properties located in the 25-year floodplain.

2. Elevation of properties in accordance with local, state, and
federal floodplain management requirements located outside the
25-year floodplain but within the IOO-year floodplain.

A brief narrative describing how each mitigation action was evaluated
and considered cost-effective should follow each action considered.
Refer to the sample Flood Risk Mitigation Plans located in Appendix 4
and 5 for additional examples.

:;14:

:?/S:

8

Flood Risk Mitigation Plan
