Requirement #2: <br /> <br />Description of the existing flood hazard and identification of the flood <br />risk. Include estimates of the number and type of structures at risk. <br />repetitive loss properties, and the extent of flood depth and damage <br />potential. <br /> <br />Describing the existing flood hazard and identifying the flood risk will <br />require coordination with various departments within your own local <br />government. State and Federai agencies and organizations may also be <br />helpful as well as flood studies and maps. Consider the following <br />resources and references while completing Requirement #2. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for jurisdiction, The FIRM <br />identifies the 100-year and 500-year floodplains and the floodway <br />boundaries, Your local floodplain coordinator should have copies <br />of the maps for your jurisdiction, To obtain a copy of the FIRM(s) <br />for a specific jurisdiction you must know your community number. <br />Your floodplain coordinator should know your National Flood <br />Insurance Program (NFIP) number. If not, call the State Floodplain <br />Coordinator at (573) 526-9141, To order a FIRM, call the Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency at 1-800-358-9616 to request the <br />map(s). There is no charge to iocai jurisdictions. <br /> <br />~ <br />- <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Flood Insurance Study for jurisdiction. Many flood insurance <br />studies were conducted by the Federal Emergency Management <br />Agency during the period when a community was being mapped for <br />the National Flood Insurance Program, On occasion, Fiood <br />Insurance Studies are updated, Not all communities have a Flood <br />Insurance Study. The purpose of the study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards within a local jurisdiction. <br />Your local floodplain coordinator should have a copy of FEMA's <br />Flood Insurance Study. Ifnot, call FEMA at 1-800-358-9616. lfa <br />copy is not available through FEMA call the State Floodplain <br />Coordinator at (573) 526-9141. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Department of Natural Resources, Dam Safety Program, The <br />Department of Natural Resources, Dam Safety Program, is <br />responsible for completing flood inundation mapping for all <br />regulated and high hazard dams, As of November 14, 1997, <br />Jefferson County is the only jurisdiction currently being mapped <br />through this program, However, the Dam Safety Program has <br />conducted breach analysis for 10-12 dams in the state of Missouri. <br />To determine if a breach anaiysis has been conducted on a dam in <br />your jurisdiction or to obtain information about the Jefferson <br />County study, first locate the name of the dam and then call the <br />Chief of Dam Safety at (573) 368-2177. <br /> <br />~ <br />- <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />Flood Risk Mitigation Plan <br />
