releases were discontinued on 10 JQ\:y when the flood storage
was evacuated. Th,~ peak reservoir inflow was 10,100 cubic
feet per second on 6 Ma;y. ReserYe>ir releases at the time of
the peak inflow were zero. Operation of the Cherry Creek
project prevented considerable damage along the Cherry Creek
channel downstream from the dam to the mouth of Cherry Creek.
In addition, it is estimated that the peak di.scharge on the
South Platte River at the Denver gaging station, located 0.4
mile downstream from the mouth of Cherry Creek, was redueed
by about 8,000 cubic feet per second as a result of that
operation. The peak discharge at the South Platte River gagj,ng
station at Henderson, located 13 miles downstream from the
Denver gaging stat.ion, was not signi ficantly affected by the
Cherry Creek oper~,tion beca1.lse the peak discharge at Henderson
occurred as a result of runoff from the drainage area d01mstl'eam
from the Denver gaging station.

Number and Date

73-1 - 27 Apr

73-2 - 6 Ma;y
73-3 - 4 Jun
73-4 - 6 Jun

73-5 - 13 Jun
73-6 - 18 Jun

73-7 - 2 Jul

Table ;~2
SUMMAHY OF RESERVOIH HEC~JLATION ORDEHS
ISSUED FOR CHERRY CREEK LAKE

Begin release e>f 60 c. f. s. at 0800 hours 30 Apr
Increase release to 120 c. f. s, at 1600 hours 30 ApI'
Discontinue releases at 1100 hours 6 May
Begin release of 125 c. 1'. s. at 1100 hours q J'un
Increase release to 300 c.f.s. at 1100 hours 6 Jun
Increase releas:e to 370 c.f.s. at 1100 hours 7 Jun
Decrease release to 130 c.r.s.. at 0900 hours 13 Jun
Increase releas:e to 3'70 c. f. s. at 1000 hours 18 Jun
Decrease release to 2'70 c. f. s" when pool falls to
elevation 5556 feet m' fl.l.
Decrease releafle to 125 c. f. s. at. 0900 hours 3 Jul
Discontinue releases when pool falls belO1. elevation
5550 feet m. s..1.

4"
)
