Solutions to Flood Threats

There is no way at the present time to control the quantity or

dispersion of precipitation. Weather modification is yet an embryo.

All methods of ameliorating flood damages should be pursued.

Watershed treatment measures in some areas should be beneficial.

Flood plain zoning should be encouraged. Engineering requirements and

designs for bridges and overpasses may need to be reassessed. Building

requirements in some areas possibly should be revamped.

Basically, however, it appears that flood detention structures offer

the only current solution to flooding. However, in the interest of

future resource development, all such structures should be multiple-purpose
whenever possible.

3
