.

D, PROPOSED SOLUTIONS

A complete description of every alternative is provided in Section IV of the project report. Below is a list of
the alternatives with a very brief description following each alternative:

Alternative 1- No Action:
Leave conditions as they are today. This is the "Do Nothing" Alternative.

Alternative 2 - Diversion channeVring levee without upstream detention:

Construct a diversion channeVring levee on the north side of Weldona to convey stonn flows around the
community to the South Platte River. Enlarge the existing channel and culverts located along highway 144
(adjacent to the abandoned railroad) between County Road 9 and the railroad bridge east of Weldona.
Construct new culverts at highway 144 and a new channel along Grove Street from highway 144 to the South
Platte River.

Provide up to 100-year level of protection for all homes and businesses in the community. Do not construct
any upstream detention facilities for flow reduction.

Alternative 3 - Regional detention reservoir north of Weldon a:
Construct a large detention reservoir north of Weldona to store flood flows from Schaefer Draw. The
detention facility would be designed to capture the natural 100-year flow, with an outlet design for the 5-year
flow.

. Alternative 4 - Floodproofing and/or elevation of flood prone structures:

Floodproof and/or elevate all of the flood prone residential and commercial structures in the community of
Weldona. This alternative would not require construction of any of the other alternatives.

e

-5-
