The State EngIneer and DIvIsIon <br />Englneers contInue to monltor the condltlons of the state's reservoIrs <br />and non-publIc works facllitles In unIncorporated areas. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />On AprIl 3D, 1984, Governor Lamm requested assIstance from the <br />U.S. Army Corps of EngIneers, Sacramento DistrIct, under P.L 99 to <br />assist in both advance measures and flood-flght actIvitIes on the <br />Western Slope. Grand Junction staff of the Corps have provided <br />assIstance in bulldlng dIkes, contracted heavy equIpment to assIst <br />local and state crews, Imported 100,000 sand bags from Kansas City to <br />Grand Junctlon, and provlded sand for sand bag operatIons and rlprap. <br /> <br />On May 15, 1984, Governor Lamm requested assIstance from the <br />Albuquerque DistrIct of the U.S. Army Corps of EngIneers for potential <br />flooding ln southern Colorado. Representatlves of the Corps lnspected <br />the Arkansas Rlver BasIn and potentIally affected areas In Costllla, <br />Saguache, Fremont and Chaffee countIes last weekend. The majorlty of <br />the flood threat appears to have passed In these areas. The Corps ls <br />on alert for any further asslstance If requested. <br /> <br />On May 24, 1984, Governor Lamm requested assIstance from the <br />Omaha Dlstrlct of the U.S. Army Corps of EngIneers who are presently <br />on a stand-by basIs. The state Is monHorlng streamflows on all <br />front-range and eastern Colorado streams. Whlle major floodlng does <br />not appear lmmlnent, many creeks and rlvers may be runnIng at capacIty <br />over the next several days. Local and state government representa- <br />tlves as well as the Corps are on alert for assIstance as needed. <br /> <br />State flood emergencles have been declared by Governor Lallll1 for <br />the countIes of GunnIson, Montrose, Delta and Mesa as well as the <br />towns of Sllt and Oak Creek. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Several countles and local governments have expended several <br />hundred thousand dollars In flood-flghtlng to date: GunnIson County <br />(SlOO,COO), Montrose County (S600,OOO), Delta County (SSOO,OOO), Mesa <br />
