Your home may be repaired whenever
necessary, however, if more than 50 per cent of it
is destroyed by any means, you may not rebuild.
For additional restriction and detaTTS see Section
X. of the Zone on Page 27 of this booklet.

If I own property now and wish to build a home in a
flood plain zone may I do so?

No, once a flood plain is defined and the flood plain
zone is adopted for that flood plain, the County
cannot issue a building permit for a home in a 100
year flood plain. If your home lies in a standard
project flood zone you may build provided your home
meets all the floodproofing regulations. However,
by special approval of the Board of County Commissioners
you may build in a 100 year flood plain providing you
fill and build at a elevation above the 100 year flood
level.

What can I do with my land if it is Flood Plain Zoned?

Such uses as agricultural, farming, grazing, outdoor
plant nurseries, horticulture, forestry, recreational
uses, parking areas, etc. Please see Section V., Page
20 for more detail of uses.

What is the National Flood Insurance Program and what
is it designed to do?

The program was establised by the National Flood Insurance
Act of 1968 (enacted as part of the Housing and Urban

- 13 -
