A 1969 Amendment to the Act expanded <br />the 'definition of flood to include mudslides, <br />and mudslide area restrictions are also required, <br />wherever applicable. <br /> <br />If my home lies within a flood plain zone may I <br />buy flood insurance for my home? <br /> <br />Yes, El Paso County residents are eligible to <br />purchase national flood insurance through their <br />local insurance agencies. However, if a home is <br />constructed after El Paso County's flood insurance <br />eligibility date (March 9, 1973) that person will <br />not be able to purchse insurance until the County <br />is placed on the regular Flood Insurance Program <br />at which time he will be required to pay full <br />actuarial rates. <br /> <br />What types of structures are eligible for flood <br />insurance coverage? <br /> <br />Effective March 9, 1973, all structures used for <br />residential, business, religious, or agricultural <br />purposes, structures occupied by nonprofit organi- <br />zations, and structures owned by State or local <br />governments or agencies thereof are eligible for <br />flood insurance coverage. <br /> <br />- 14 - <br />
