<br />ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES <br /> <br />The National Environmental Policy Act <br />(P.L.-190) requires that the Federal <br />Government, in its activities, maintain <br />conditions which will encourage pro. <br />ductive and enjoyable harmony be- <br />tween man and his environment. Envi- <br />ronmental impact statements (EIS) <br />must be prepared on major Federal <br />actions sigmficantly allecling the qual. <br />ity of human environment. Where envi. <br />ronmental statements are required, a <br />drall is prepared and comments are <br />obtained Irom interested governmental <br />and private organizations. The com- <br />ments are used in preparation of a final <br />environmental slatement which,like the <br />drall, is also filed with the Council on <br />Environmental Quality and furnished to <br />interested organizations. <br /> <br />In Fiscal Year 1973, final environmental <br />statements were prepared and ftled with <br />the Council on Environmental Quality <br />on Crystal Dam and ReserVOir, China <br />Meadows Dam and Reservoir, Savery- <br />Pot Hook Pfojecl. Huntington Canyon <br />Generating Station Unit No.1, and on <br />San Juan Generating Station Unit No. <br />1. The Crystal Dam Final Environmental <br />Statement was amended. Preliminary <br /> <br />/ <br />work lor the preparation of an environ. <br />mental statement began on the follow- ,,- <br />ing: Second Unit of Huntington Canyon- <br />Generating Station and 345.kv Trans. .. ...- <br />mission Line, the Second Unit of San <br />Juan Generating Station, Curecanti- <br />Shiprock No, 2 Transmission Line, <br />contract lor sale of 125,000 acre-feet <br />01 water from Fontenelle ReserVOIr to <br />the State of Wyoming for municipal and <br />industrial development, coal gasifica. <br />tlon plants proposed by EI Paso Natural <br />Gas and Western Gasification, and <br />Four Corners Generating Station.
