<br />CONSTRUCTIDIt <br /> <br />During Fiscal Year 1973 construction <br />accomplishments included slarts on <br />both the Weld Substation, Weld County, <br />Colorado, and Tunnel No. 4 on the <br />Main Canal 01 the Navajo Indian Irriga- <br />tion Project. Siphons were replaced on <br />Fruitland Mesa PrOject and on the Bost. <br />wick Park Project. Two portions at the <br />Archer Substation were also com- <br />pleted, Soldier Creek Dam (Bonneville <br />Unit. Cenlfal Utah Project) and Tunnels <br />No.3 and 3A on the Main Canal 01 the <br />Nayajo Indian Irrigation Project were <br />substantially complete at the end of the <br />liscal year, <br /> <br />A diversion tunnel was dfilled at Crystal <br />Dam, Curecanti Unit. and work began <br />on the dam and powerpJant structures. <br />A contract was awarded for construc- <br />tion at a Ihin.arch concrete dam and <br />powerplant at a cost of about $20,. <br />800,000-a savings of about $3,400,000 <br />over the estimated cost of an earthfill <br />dam at the same site, Other work this <br />year on the unit included construction <br />01 an exhibit shelter and parking area <br />lor visitors at Morrow Point Dam and a <br />prelabricated metal warehouse at Mont. <br />rose, Colorado, Work also began on <br />bituminous surfacing of foads and <br />parking areas at Morrow Point Dam, <br />Blue Mesa Dam, and at the Power Op- <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />erations Center at Montrose. The Cure- <br />canti.CryslaI115.kilovolt Transmission <br />Line extension is underway. <br />At the Glen Canyon Unit, upgrading 01 <br />visitor facilities continued An addition <br />to the Page water filtration plant was <br />completed, as was an aifpoft fire sta. <br />tion. <br />Major new starts on the Bonneville Unit <br />01 the Central Utah Project were delay- <br />ed pending the processing of an envi. <br />ronmental statement. Work already <br />underway was continued. U.S. Highway <br />40 was relocated around the enlarged <br />Strawberry Reservoir. Soldier Creek <br />Dam was essentially complete WIth only <br />cleanup and some minor work remain- <br />ing The first lifteen mites of the Jordan <br />Aqueduct were substantially complete <br />at the end 01 the Iiscal year. Both the <br />Layout and Currant Tunnels were holed <br />through and lined with concrete. Water <br />Hollow Diversion Dam and the Layout <br />Creek stream inlet structur~ wefe com- <br />pleted. A U.S. Forest Service trail into <br />the Uinta Mountain Primitive Area was <br />felocated around the proposed Upper <br />Stillwatef Reservoir. <br /> <br />In June the State 01 Utah tet a contract <br />for construction 01 lour miles of Inter- <br />state Highway 1-15 north of Nephi, Utah. <br />The contract provides 10f the construe. <br />tion at two seven-foot dlametef pipe <br />siphons to extend the proposed Mona- <br />Nephi Canal under the highway. Stages 02 and 03 con- <br />struction on the Archer Substation was <br />completed and Stage 01 construction <br />on the Weld Substation begun <br />On the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project <br />in New Mexico, work continued on <br />about thirteen miles of Main Canal <br />Tunnels 3 and 3A were substantially <br />complete. <br />The existing highway around Fonte- <br />nelle Reservoir, Seedskadee Project, <br />was rehabilitated. <br />
