<br />DEFINITIONS AND TERMS
<br />
<br />Titles used in these specifications having a mascu-
<br />line gender, such as "workmen" and the pronouns
<br />"he" or "his", are for the sake of brevity and are
<br />intended to refer to persons of either sex.
<br />The titles or headings of the sections and sub-
<br />sections herein are intended for convenience of
<br />reference and shall not have any bearing on their
<br />interpretation.
<br />When the Contract indicates that work shall be
<br />"accepted, acceptable, approval, approved, autho-
<br />rized, condemned, considered necessary, contem-
<br />plated, deemed necessary, designated, determined,
<br />directed, disapproved, established, given, indicated,
<br />insufficient, interpretation, interpreted, ordered, per-
<br />mitted, rejected, required, reserved, satisfactory,
<br />specified, sufficient, suitable, suspended, unaccep-
<br />table, unsatisfactory," it shall be understood that
<br />these expressions are followed by the words "By the
<br />Engineer," or "To the Engineer."
<br />Wherever the following abbreviations, terms,
<br />or pronouns are used in these specifications, plans,
<br />or other contract documents, the intent and meaning
<br />shall be interpreted as follows:

<br />101.02 Advertisement. A public announce-
<br />ment inviting proposals for work to be performed or
<br />materials to be furnished.
<br />
<br />101.03 Affected Area. As related to mined
<br />land reclamation the total disturbed surface of a pit
<br />or quarry such as sand, gravel, topsoil, or borrow,
<br />that is being mined or will be mined. The area
<br />includes, but is not limited to, the excavation area,
<br />plant, and stockpile areas, parking and storage
<br />areas, and the haul roads.

<br />ision of a proposal.
