This figure is
based on a DRCOG October 1978 land use survey. Applying an estimated
2.0 persons per household, there are approximately 252 persons residing in
the town.

Trends. In 1970, Black Hawk's population was 217 persons. In the last 8
years, from 1970 to 1978, the population increased by 35 persons or 16
percent. During the same period, the population in Gilpin County increased by
approximately 1,500 persons or 125 percent.

Proiections. Population projections for the town are difficult to make due to
the community's size and limited amount of developable land. Growth in
Black Hawk will largely depend on growth trends in Gilpin County and local
poliCies regarding capital improvements and annexations.

In Gilpin County, population is estimated to increase at an annual rate of
3.3 percent from 1978 to 1990, i.e., from 2,700 to 4,000 persons. * Black
Hawk can capture a portion of this projected growth if water and developable
land are made available within present and future town boundaries.

Population Summary

1970

1980

1990

1978

Black Hawk
Central City
Gilpin County

217
228
1,200

252
300
2,700

3,000

4,000

Household Social and Economic Characteristics

Characteristics of households are based on 1970 Census information.
