Major emplcryers of Black Hawk residents are construction, wholesale <br />and retail trade, and government businesses. <br /> <br />. In Gilpin County, an average of 50 new homes per year have been built <br />since 1970. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. Assessed valuation, from 1973 to 1977, increased in Black Hawk by 25% <br />compared to 55% for all of Gilpin County. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. Retail sales, from 1973 to 1977, increased in the town by 19% compared <br />to 43% for all of Gilpin County. After discounting for inflation, Black <br />Hawk's retail sales actually decreased. <br /> <br />. Retail sales are highly seasonal. Approximately 60% of total retail <br />sales in Gilpin County were made in a four month period, from June <br />through September. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. There are presently 38 identified businesses in Black Hawk.
