Flood of Auaust 1. 1923~ - There is evidence of a flood n

August 1, 1923; at two points in the lower Huerfano and one point n the

upper river. The recording gage at the mouth did not operate, but the

peak discharge computed by the Office cf the State Engineer from h'gh

~at0~ marks was 19,400 cubic feet per second, while the discharge t

~J".e location of the present Undercliffe cage (Mile - 23.3) was undet rmined.

On tbe same day at 9:00 p.m. a recording gage established at Badit , in

the upper river, showed a stage of 9.20 feet corr~sponding to a di charge

of 5,500 cubio feet per second but this latter peak could not ~ve been

synchronized with the flood in the lower river since it could not aYe

reaohed the mouth in any event until the following day.

25.
