ESTIMATED COSTS

Table IX lists the estimated costs for the proposed improve-
ments on the main stream and south tributary. These costs are
broken down into categories to allow for better analysis of
the distribution of costs. No costs have been allocated to
flood control and flood plain zoning programs or flood insur-
ance acquisition. These items have certain costs for imple-
mentation, however. The costs for flood management programs
. is presumably undefineable. The cost of insurance is not a
City cost but is borne by the private property owner.

TABLE IX
SLAUGHTERHOUSE GULCH

Estimated Costs

Items

Cost

South
Tributary

Cost

Main Stream

Channel

$110,400
150,200
10,400

$ 8,000
94,700
o

Street & Crossing Improvements
Right-of-Way

Total Estimated Construction
Cost

$271,000
$108,400
$379,400

$102,700
$ 41,100
$143,800

Contingency 40%
Total Estimated Project Cost

C. REVIEW OF ESTIMATED COSTS

The final estimated costs are generally somewhat higher than
those estimated in the Interim Report. Table X compares the
Interim Report estimate cost to the preliminary design detailed
cost estimates. The cost estimates are based on present day
construction costs for large scale public works projects; A
large contingency cost has been used in the estimate to allow
for engineering, legal and fiscal costs as well as unidentified
utility problems and possible additional construction problems
along the Denver Water Board 60-inch conduit alignment. Costs
may be expected to increase if the project is phased over an
extended period of time in small portions. Many costs included
in the estimate may never be necessary as a cost sharing basis
with the private developer may help to pay for some of these
improvements.

X-2
