The funding will be used to allow the Animas La Plata Water Conservancy District to develop a water management plan
for the Western rural region of the La Plata County within the District ($15,000) and for the La Plata Water Conservancy
District to develop a plan for Marvel Spring ($15,000). The project is complete.

CWCB - South Platte River Diversion Structure fuventory
Authorization: FY 200 I Grant Amount: $ I 0,000
Water Source: South Platte River Project Type: Water fuventory
Location: 124"' Avenue to the Nebraska Stateline Project Manager: Mike Serlet

This project is completion of an inventory of all the major irrigation diversion structures on the South Platte River from
the Henderson Gage (approx. 1241h Avenue) to the Nebraska border. The inventory would include type, size, and
condition of each structure, together with photo documentation, location, owner's name and address, water rights, and
replacement/repair cost estimate. The State Engineer's Office will be conducting the initial phase of the inventory
utilizing local water commissioners to complete a cursory inspection of each structure. A consultant will be contracted to
complete a more detailed inspection of the most deficient structures. The inventory will be used to identify problems and
market loans to irrigators to make needed infrastructure improvements.

CWCBIDWRlUSGS - Stream Gaging and Monitoring
Authorization: FY 2001
Water Source: N/A
Location: Statewide

Grant Amount: $50,000
Project Type: Data plan & acquisition
Project Manager: JeffBaessler

New stream gages, improvements to existing stream gages such as the addition of satellite telemetry equipment, as well
as other hydrologic and climatologic instrumentation that will provide the Board with raw water resources data. This is a
statewide effort to obtain and maintain water resources data that is used by the state and many other entities for the
purpose of water supply planning, development, protection, and monitoring. With recent cuts in federal programs that
have historically supplied much of this data, there is a critical need to continue to not only maintain data collection at
existing sites, but to expand the program into other streams and watersheds. The state's Decision Support Systems,
which have been or are currently being developed, cannot operate adequately without this raw data.
A gaging committee has been formed within the CWCB, which meets each fall to discuss and prioritize areas where
additional resources are essential to maintain and develop accurate water resources data. Specific projects are then
implemented and equipment needs are procured.

Colorado State University - Hollv Area Best Management Practices Demonstration Proiect
Authorization: FY 2001 Grant Amount: $10,000
Water Source: Arkansas River Project Type: Water Mngment Study
Location: Lower Arkansas River Valley near Holly Project Manager: Steve Miller

This $10,000 grant is the final installment on a $100,000 demonstration project funded from the severance tax trust fund.
The $10,000 will be used to prepare and distribute a final report documenting the findings and success of the project.
The details of this final contract are still being negotiated.
Runoff from certain agricultural areas in the lower Arkansas River valley has a high salt concentration that contributes to
the salinity of the Arkansas River at the state line. This project is designed to encourage irrigators to effectively manage
water use to improve crop yields and water quality, to demonstrate the economic benefits of using more effective
irrigation management practices using improved technology such as crop planting patterns and rotation, surge irrigation,
and Best Management Practices. Results will be documented to show increased crop yields and more efficient use of
irrigation water through improved application methods and rehabilitation of existing drainage works.

CWCB - Statewide Drainage/Floodplain Management Criteria Manual

Authorization: FY 200 I Grant Amount: $ I 50,000
Water Source: N/ A Project Type: Flood Control
Location: Statewide Project Manager: Tom Browning

31
