The highest priority group
includes counties that CWCB views as the candidate pool for the first fiscal year. 4 - 8 of those
counties may get funding for first year mapping activities, depending on how much money FEMA
provides for Colorado. That high priority group includes 16 counties and 97 municipalities, for a
total of 113 potential communities for FY'03 mapping activities. The highest priority counties are
shown below. Since population and population growth are factors in the scoring system, one would
expect significant representation in the highest priority group from Front Range counties. In
addition, weighting was given to counties facing potential flood impacts from last summer's
wildfires. 7 wildfire-impacted counties (out of 11) are included in the list below. The list is
arranged in rough geographic order from northeast to southwest.

Colorado 2003 MMIP
Highest Priority Counties FY '03

e

County Name # of municipalities
within county
Larimer 6
Weld 26
City and County of Broomfield n.a.
Boulder 9
Adams 7
City and County of Denver n.a.
Arapahoe 12
Elbert 3
Douglas 4
Park 2
Teller 3
Routt 4
Ea/de 7
Garfield 6
Mesa 5
Rio Grande 3

At approximately the same time that we are sending this memorandum to every community in
Colorado, we will send a more detailed memorandum to those 113 highest priority communities to
discuss the specific activities that the CWCB, Urban Drainage (for the Denver metro area) and the
communities will need to undertake in anticipation to possible floodplain mapping activities in the
various communities during the spring, summer and fall of 2003.
