of that project in its importation of water
with the private Homestake Project.

On the Nat~ows, (Mr. Sloan this will get
into your question), we have largely completed
the hydrologic studies of the south platte
Basin which effect the selection of the dam
site at Narrows. This has been an extremely
complicated study, as you all know. We find
now, through these operation studies, that
there appears to be an area, or rather three
areas, in which we need storage in the entire
basin. One in the upper reaches of the basin
above Denver; one immediately below Denver;
and one in the vicinity of the two locations
under study between Kersey and Fort Morgan.
Now we are basing these studies on the estimate
of the population in the valley in 1990 and
that estimate was made by the Inter-County
Regional Planning commission. The population
has a terrific effect upon the water supplies
that will be available due to the return flows
from the city of Denver and the uses of this
growing population in this area. We estimate
from those studies that there will be an in-
creased water supply immediately below Denver
of about l60,OOO acre-feet by 1990.

1

We have been furnishing this information
to the Denver Water Board staff of engineers
as rapidly as it could be prepared and they
have been aware and ate checking and conferring
with us all the way through on it. Very shO'rtly,
I think, there will be a hydrologist from the
Denver Water BOard assigned to the Denver De-
velopment Office to review these figures ih
detail.

There also has been called by the Director
of Natural Resources a meeting of the Steering
Committee for February l3th. Mr. Sloan, no
doubt you have that notice, at which time
these matters will be discussed and we hope
that agreement will have been reached between
our hydrologist and the Denver Water Board
hydrologist in the matter of approach and the
criteria used.

1
