1

1

MR. BERG:

"Thank you."

MR. KNIGHTS:

"Assisting Mr. Berg in his acting capacity
as Director is Homer S. Varner, Jr., Acting
Assistant Director.

Now to the progress report on the work
throughout our area. First, on the Fryingpan-
Arkansas we have been very fortunate, as you
all know, with the weather and progress has
been excellent on the work at the Ruedi Dam
site and Ruedi Reservoir site. The drilling
activities there have been going, on very ,well
for the past two months. We have concentrated
our drilling operations in the reservoir site
and not on the dam site. I think at the
moment there have been no holes drilled at
the dam site at all but they have been drilled
across the reservoir site, very deep holes,
500 feet and more, and we have found nothing
except reassurance. The foundation as far as
water'holding capability appears to be cer-
tainly no worse than we expected. In fact,
personally, I think it's considerably better.

The surveys, aerial topography particu-
larly, have been completed insofar as flying
and taking of pictures are concerned and the
contractor is at work in drawing the actual
maps now of the area. The control crews are
able to work in the area because there is no
snow and due to the very fortunate weather
situation.

We expect to have the specifications and
the call for bids on the Ruedi Dam ready for
issuance in the spring of 1964. Not this
coming spring, one year from now.

Investigational work is continuing on that
project, more particularly in the line of hydro-
logic surveys. Those are continuing; we have
not arrived at the point of any definite con-
clusions as of the moment. We are testing
out the various possibilities of incorporation
