IH6

MR. MOSES:

"Mr. Sparks, on your September
12th memorandum you went into the
gaging stations. Do you wish to take
that up at this time?"

MR. SPARKS:

"Yes. There was attached to that
memorandum of September 12th a list
of the gaging stations which the De-
partment of the Interior request for
immediate installation so that they
\ canbegiD the studies on the projects
listed there. Now as you know, the
Bureau feels they must have these
gaging stations and take readings for
some three or four years before they
can justify the water supply for any
project.

I

MR. MOSES:

These gaging stations listed about
complete all the stations necessary
for the projects mentioned in P. L. 485.
We would then have in operation, with
these stations, 60 gaging stations.
The number will taper off each year as
the studies are completed. Then the
gaging stations are taken off. We will
get our maximum with these installations
here of 60 stations. We have the money
for the installation of these gaging
stations and the U. S. G. S. has the
matching money for the installations al-
though this is not something, you under-
stand, that we had planned in our budget.
.Neither the U. S. G. S. or this Board
had particularly planned this. The
Bureau has accelerated their studies
and if they are going to accelerate them,
we want to help them."

"Do you know at this time whether
these stations coupled with the others
totaling 60, are going to provide the
information for the studies authorized
at the last Board meeting?"

MR. SPARKS:

"Yes. These 60 stations will just
about complete those studies. There
are other stations too in addition to
what we are maintaining. The State,
for instance, maintains a number of
gaging stations absolutely on its own
through the State Engineer's office.

I
