MR. STAPLETON:

I

MR. PETERSON:

l~~l

"I think any motion to that effect
would tie in with the Natural Resources
Board."

~Mr. Chairman I believe this Board
should take action as a Board interested
in conservation, then it could be funneled
through proper channels to get an overall
commitment. I do not see any reason at all
why we do not have enough information now
so that this Board can take a stand on it.

I would like to move that we do strong-
ly oppose the establishment of the wilder-
ness areas that have been proposed."

MR. McNICHOlS:

I

"Before you vote on this, let me point
out to you that sometime ago when the
Curecanti Project was being discussed, one
of our State agencies took a position against
it and it was an unfortunate thing and per-
haps not intended the way it worked out.
But when you get back into Congress and then
you find you are making fodder for your
opposition by having them reach back into
. the minutes of an independent agency
and say' .They don't know what they want,
one agency wants one thing and one agency
wants another', I think before this Board
takes any action on that we ought to get the
