lZOU

MR. SPARKS:

MR. BARNARD,JR.:

MR. SPARKS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. MILLER:

very little trouble working with them.
If they are opposed to it, then I would
assume (maybe it is not safe to assume but
we have always worked very closely with
them) that if they are opposed to it then
there may be some things in that bill to
which the Department probably also would be
opposed.

I

Certainly we would want the opportuntty
to study it with you."

"This whole thing points out the great
need for some coordinating force in the State
of Colorado as the Governor has long argued
for the various natural resources departments.
Heretofore our departments would just go
around on their own and it is still pretty
much that way. My thinking, when I got into
this Wilderness legislation, was that now is
the proper time to coordinate the state
agencies that are concerned with natural re-
sources. They are all vitally concerned."

"You do feel there is a good chance we
will have a hearing in Denver, don't you?'

"Yes. If they don't we will certainly
appear in Washington, one of the two. I
think these hearings are more of a window-
dressing, as near as I can determine. We went
into that to try and find out what they were
for. It is rather unusual to begin with to
have such hearings and actually we are going
to have to depend a great deal upon our Con-
gressional delegation. I think we will go
into that a little later this afternoon -
on what we can do with our Congressional dele-
gation."

"Is it the pleasure of the Board to
take any action at this time in regard to
Wilderness legislation?'

"Mr. Chairman the only desire on my
part is to go along with the Governor's idea
of coordinating the position of Colorado.
Here today, I would assume that if we do
take a position as the Colorado Water Con-
servation Board it would have to be coordin-
ated with these other agencies."

I
