802

Bureau of Reclamation economist studied farm opera-
tions in the project area.

A field examination of the watershed area has been
completed and a report prepared and distributed to
the participating agencies.

We haven't yet prepared a detailed schedule for completion
and review of the report for this project, as you received
for the Paonia Project report, but such a schedule proba-
bly will be prepared and sent you soon after the first of
the year. Please don't hold me to it because it isn't a
firm target date, but we hope to complete a draft of this
report about March, 1958.

I

Sincerely,

/s/ HAROLD
Harold B. Elmendorf, Chairman
USDA Field Advisory Committee

cc: A. J. Webber
G. R. Phillips

"Thank you, Dean Crawford, for
thi s report."

Mr. Peterson commented that while the amount of
money to be allocated to the projects in western Colorado
at the various sessions of Congress seems like a large
amount, compared to the amount of money the other western
states are getting, it is not out of line. He said that
Colorado has a lot of projects compared with what was ap-
propriated for this year and while it is a lot of money,
it is very small compared to other states' amounts. Dean
Crawford said that as far as Curecanti is concerned, it
would be better to go after as large appropriations as can
be secured. It should not be forgotten that this is a main
stem proj ect.

r,lR. MOSES:

MR. PETERSON:

"Colorado has set up Public Law 485
and has 21 participating projects under
that law compared to the ones in other
states; for example, New Mexico will
have its one project completed and we
will still have 19 or 20 to complete.
We will find ourselves a long way from
being developed when the other states
are all through. I think Colorado is
entitled to a larger percentage of the
appropriations for participating proj-
ects."

I
