I

Creek basin would cause an elevation of about
5,645 in Cherry Creek reservoir. ~he same
flood would cause a discharge through the spill-
way of about 45,000 cubic feet per second.
This is a far-out flood. I mean, it is not an
everyday occurrence. It is a design situation
and it probably would never happen as one
occurrence, but a series of floods or rainfall
in a short period of time could cause a bad
situation over there.

Our current holdings in lands in Cherry
Creek reservoir amount to the lands below
5,629 feet mean sea level. Therefore, any
flooding that occurs about 5,629 would be on
private property.

We looked at several alternatives to the
spillway problem in Cherry Creek. I might like
to empPasize here that solution of any problems
in the Sand Creek basin is dependent upon some-
thing being done with the spillway on Cherry
Creek. Because when you are designing flood
control works for Sand or Toll Gate Creeks you
have to consider the impact with spillway dis-
charges from Cherry Creek.

I

In our formulation of a plan for the Sand
and Toll Gate Creek basin we first looked for
a solution of the Cherry Creek problem. We
looked at storage within Cherry Creek basin
and we looked at storage within Toll Gate
Creek basin to take care of the spillway dis-
charges. The possibilities we looked at includ-
ed raising the potential Toll Gate Creek dam,
which is explained in here, to compensate the
spillway discharge. Another solution was con-
struction of a concrete chute in the Cherry
Creek project to take care of this discharge
and blocking off the spillway. Another alter-
native was the construction of the Castlewood
dam. Another alternative was the raising of
the Cherry Creek dam to take care of the flood.
Of all these alternatives, it appears the best

-i7-
