<br /> <br />Water Congress Publications: In July the Colorado Water Congress published a book containing the water and <br />water-related laws ofthe second regular session ofthe 63rd General Assembly. Only 25 copies of this book are <br />available. The Water Congress will also be printing the 2001-2002 Water Almanac and Directory. New to <br />this edition are e-mail addresses and web page sites pertaining to water and water-related entities. For further <br />information or to place an order e-mail macravevlalcowatercongress.org. . <br /> <br />Colorado Water Trust: At its September meeting, the Colorado Water Trust (CWT) formally adopted <br />Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation. The Trust also appointed Peter Nichols to serve as its first Executive <br />Director (Peter also deserves congratulations for passing the bar). Representatives from CWT will make a <br />presentation to the CWCB in January to provide an update on its activities and describe how it plans on <br />working with the CWCB. An official "kick-off' event for the Colorado Water Trust has been scheduled for <br />Jan. 29 at the REI store in the lower Platte River Valley. <br /> <br />Upcoming Water Congress Convention: The 44th Annual Convention of the Colorado Water Congress will <br />be held Jan. 24 - 25,2002 in Northglenn. The conference will be devoted to water supply security, <br />constitutional amendment reform and challenges to the Colorado Water Conservation Board Construction <br />Fund. Our January meeting will coincide with the convention. <br /> <br />New State Parks Director: DNR Executive Director Greg Walcher has announced that Lyle Laverty will be <br />the new Director of the Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. He starts on December 1. Laverty served <br />in the U.S. Forest Service for 38 years and was the Rocky Mountain Regional Forester. <br /> <br />GreenCO: We are working with Green Industries of Colorado (GreenCO) to improve landscape water <br />conservation. They have requested funds to inventory, compile and standardize regional "best management <br />practices" (BMPs) for landscape water use, including design, installation and maintenance practices. They <br />intend to work with water providers and other key stakeholders to accomplish this project. <br /> <br />. The goals of the project are: <br /> <br />. Inventory and prioritize existing BMPs by region. <br />. Address the range of practices for the design, installation and maintenance of landscapes by industry, and <br />address variations on a regional basis. <br />. Where needed, suggest additional or improved BMPs. <br />. Develop a BMP resource guide and central contact site; post results on CWCB web site. <br />. Synthesize findings to create a solid framework for industry-wide discussion and adoption ofBMPs as an <br />industry standard, <br /> <br />Our project will be under taken using Severance Tax Operational Account funds designated for Conservation <br />and Drought Planning projects. The BMPs and other information will reside on our website. <br /> <br />GreenCO representatives will be at our meeting to introduce themselves and answer questions about this <br />initiative. Additional information will be provided in your notebook. <br /> <br />Flood Documentation Report: Weare contracting with consultants to document several flood events that <br />occurred during 2001. This $25,000 project will be funded via the new Flood Response Fund. CWCIhtaff <br />have identified the following locations where flood documentation is needed: Colorado Springs, Greeley, <br />Holyoke, MeekerIRio Blanco County, New Castle, Palisade/Grand Valley, Telluride to Placerville. All of <br />those locations experienced some type of flooding and/or debris flows that were caused by intense <br />rainstorms. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />Flood Mitigation Assistance: The Flood Protection staff has mailed its annual notice to Colorado's National <br />Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) communities soliciting proposals for Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) <br />grant program. FEMA will provide the CWCB with $11,900 and $109,000, respectively, in FY 02 for flood <br />mitigation planning and flood mitigation projects in eligible communities.
