<br />The Mount Emmons Iron Bog is an area that contains a wetland that consists of a forest and a pond that . <br />provides habitat for nesting birds and waterfowl. The Iron Bog is actually an Iron Fen, which is a <br />wetland that primarily receives its water from iron-enriched ground water sources. The Iron Bog's <br />wetland and its unusual ecology are the primary features resulting in the proposal for the area to be <br />designated as one of Colorado's Natural Areas. The margins of the wetland support One of only two <br />populations known in Colorado of the insect-eating round leaf sundew. <br /> <br />LAKE PARKS OPEN FOR 1999 SEASON: The ice has melted at many state parks and they are open <br />for boating: <br /> <br />. Highline Lake opened Mar. 6; <br />. Jackson Lake State Park is free of ice and open to boating; <br />. Eleven Mile State Park opened to boating Mar. 19; <br />. Spinney Mountain State Park opened to boating Mar. 24. <br /> <br />CAMPING RESERVATION PHONE LINES OPEN APRIL 1: Campground reservation phone lines <br />open Apr. I for the summer season. To make a reservation, call (303) 470- I 144 in the metro Denver area <br />and I -800-678-2267 outside of Denver. The lines are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:45 <br />p.m. Reservations may be made 90 days in advance and no less than three days prior to arrival. All other <br />camping is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Campers can also go to the State Parks website. Campers <br />can view and print updated campground maps from this site. The State Parks website is located at <br />www.coloradoparks.org. <br /> <br />The nightly camping fee and the $7 reservation fee are both due upon making a reservation. Campers . <br />may reserve up to six sites per call. Camping fees', which have not changed from last year's rates, are: <br /> <br />Class A-Deluxe Campsites $16 per night <br />Class B-Improved Campsites, w/electric $12 per night <br />Class B-Improved Campsites, no electric $9 per night <br />Class C-Basic Campsites, w/electric $11 per night <br />Class C-Basic Campsites, no electric $7 per night <br />Class D-Semi-primitive Campsites $5 per night <br />Class E-Primitive Campsites $3 per night <br /> <br />. $4 daily vehicle pass or $40 annual vehicle pass also required ($5 and $43, respectively, at Cherry <br />Creek State Park). "', <br /> <br />COLORADO NATURAL AREAS COUNCIL MEETING IN DENVER: The Colorado Natural <br />Areas Council will hold its quarterly meeting on Mar. 26, at the Denver Museum of Natural History. <br />Agenda items include an update on the Council's reauthorization, a review of de-designation and <br />amendment policies, the de-designation of a portion of the Plains Conservation Center Natural Area, <br />South Boulder Creek Articles of Designation and registration of a private property at Elephant Rocks <br />Natural Area. <br /> <br />Natural Area updates will include the results of the Mt.
