:

ATTACHMENT 5

-

FPR 98-476
Floodplain Hazard Boundary Map, Town ofPlatteville, Weld County,
Colorado, January 16, 1976

KEY ISSUES:
. The FHBM contains approximate floodplain information for local storm drainage areas related
to minor drainageways within the community.

. The storm drainage problems identified on the FHBM can be addressed through prudent
zoning, land use practices, and local regulation.

. FEMA concluded that there were no significant floodplain problems in Platteville and
effectively rescinded the FHBM by a letter dated February 29, 1980.

. CWCB staff concurs with FEMA's earlier determination that the 1976 FHBM should be
rescinded.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE:
The Town of Platteville sent a letter to the CWCB requesting investigation and review of the
1976 FHBM. After a meeting with the town and conducting a site visit, CWCB staff agreed
that the FHBM should be rescinded. The town is supportive of the Board's proposed
rescission ofthe 1976 map.

e

SUMMARY:
The staff recommends Board approval of the floodplain resolution for the Town of Platteville
rescinding the 1976 FHBM. The approximate floodplain information contained in the FHBM does
not meet the Board's "Floodplain Designation and Approval Rules". The rescission will assure
that inappropriate floodplain information for Platteville, for the purposes of federal regulation and
flood insurance, is explicitly left unapproved by the state, thereby complying with state statutory
requirements. The rescission will in this particular case specifically call attention to the storm
drainage problems in the identified area, and recommend that those problems be regulated and dealt
with at the local leveL

8

e
