I

started in a small way. We have three finish-
ing this spring. We'll bring ten people on
board from across the United States and other
countries next year. We think within a short
time this program will probably expand to
include as many as thirty or forty people some-
times for short courses, and sometimes for
courses that extend through the full year.

To give you a better appreciation of our
activities and the potential here in this
category, those of you who are interested,
when you get out to the Engineering Research
Center may pick up various types of bulletins
which will give you a little more detail. The
College of Engineering has a rather recent
bulletin which outlines all of our activities
and I think you will find it interesting.
Our activities do range from water resources
and related types of research to interplanetary
space travel, electric propulsion, and so
forth. We also pulled together over the last
year a list of all of the water resources type
courses in the whole university. A matter of
interest to us as engineers in saying to other
people is 'Look, here are the courses you can
draw on'. If that is of interest to you, you
are more than welcome to pick up this informa-
tion from our people who will be out there with
you conducting tours this afternoon.

I

I might add, in closing, that we have
been very fortunate to have a lot of interest
in our activities expressed by the various
federal agencies. Over the past many years
the Geological Survey has kept a sizeable
group here doing basic research on water con-
veyance, erosion, sedimentation, transport,
diffusion, dispersion, and so forth. We have
a similar group working on watershed hydrology,
irrigation systems and ground water with the
Agricultural Research Service. In anyone year
we have approximately ten professional people
from the agencies here pursuing further work
to meet a specific objective or working toward
an advanced degree.
