OU;J.G

DR. HAGEN:

DR. EVANS:

MR. SPARKS:

DR. EVANS:

DR. DANIELSON:

"We don't know if we have it but we think
we have something great."

"We are glad you went overtime because
that was very interesting, Harold.

I

The next speaker is ill and I am supposed
to take his pLlce but because we are a little
late, I am going to wait until the end and if
we have time, I'll do it. If not, we'll pass
it.

The next is Dr. Robert Danielson of the
Agronomy Department on his project dealing
with ground water recharge through moisture
conservation."

"1 assume we can go ahead until about 12:30,
Dr. Evans?"

"Yes, we have lunch scheduled at 12:30."

"Thank you, Dr. Evans. This particular
project, which was on the screen a while ago,
deals with ground water recharge as effected
by surface vegetation and management.. I
haven't any slides of Yellowstone but I'll
just have to get along without them, I guess.

A little history on this. First of all,
we've been interested for a longtime, of
course, as everybody in this room has, on
efficient use of our water resources both in
this state and nationally as far as that is
concerned. We have had a number of projects
along the line and still have, dealing with
this type of thing. Agriculturally we know
that it is possible to increase efficiency of
water tremendously. It becomes a matter, of I
course, of economics whether it pays to do so.
Under irrigation we know it is possible to
decrease many of the losses that we normally
have through deep penetration, runoff, weed
usage and this type of thing. These are well
known and again it becomes a matter of economics,
the cost of water versus the cost of doing
these things.
