Barriers is a hydrology project. Present
annual federal funds from this source, $115,000.

Now these are evaluated by the federal
office and they choose to fund those which are
of more interest on a national scale than per-
haps we would choose ourselves in Colorado.
Nevertheless, what we submit for matching
through the program can insure Colorado's needs
too, and unless they are too local we have as
much chance of funding them as some kind of a
big, broad project that we might be less inter-.
ested in, particularly here in Colorado."

"Dr: Evans, would your Center also be inter-
ested in a proposal, by say, a two or three
state project?"

..DR. EVANS:

"Regional projects are very possible and,
in fact, favorably viewed by the federal office.
I think I can say yes on that~

With our matching funds projects, we are
at the point today of trying to find out how we
can get togethe"- enough nonfederal Doney to
cover them. It is quite possible we won't be
able to cover all of them because we have just
about used all state funds that we already had
on hand here, so we are kind of at the point
of saturation. I'll stop with that point, but
I suppose if we look at problems for us, and by
problems I mean you and the center, this Board,
and other state agencies, to take advantage of
this federal fund availability for research on
our state problems, we ought, of course, to
generate state funds for the matching of them.
