<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />"WHEREAS, during the period of 1964-1974, the Congress of the <br />United States has authorized the construction of nine federal recla- <br />mation projects in the State of Colorado upon which construction has <br />not yet started, namely: The Animas-La Plata, Closed Basin, Dallas <br />Creek, Dolores, Fruitland Mesa, Narrows, San Miguel, Savery-Pot Hook, <br />and West Divide projects; and <br /> <br />'~S, over twenty years of planning and effort, millions of <br />dollars in federal funds, and millions of dollars in State and local <br />funds have been devoted to these projects; and <br /> <br />I~REAS, these projects, individually and collectively, will <br />provide urgently needed municipal, industrial, and agricultural water <br />supplies, will greatly assist in the control of damaging floods, will <br />greatly enhance outdoor recreational opportunities in this state and <br />will further assist the development of lands for the production of food <br />and fibre; and <br /> <br />'~REAS, two of these projects were designed to provide adequate <br />water supplies to the two Ute Indian tribes residing in southwestern <br />Colorado, and to thereby materially improve the welfare and economic <br />circumstances of the people of those tribes; and <br /> <br />'\rnEREAS, these authorized projects, individually and collectively, <br />will provide great benefits to the people of the State of Colorado; and <br /> <br />: I~REAS, funds have been recommended tn the president's budget <br />message to the Congress to complete the advance planning and to initiate <br />construction of several of said projects; and <br /> <br />'\rnEREAS, the Dolores Project should be ready for construction <br />before the end of the fiscal year and is a project of high priority; <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />"Be It Resolved ba the Senate of the Fiftieth General Assembly <br />of the State of Colora 0: <br /> <br />"That it is in the interest of the people of the State of Colorado <br />that all appropriate steps be taken to fund the President's request <br />for federal reclamation projects in Colorado, and that, in addition, <br />the Congress add to such recouunendations, by its own ''write-in'', <br />construction funds for the Dolores Project as recouunended by the Colo- <br />rado Water Conservation Board. <br /> <br />"Be It Further Resolved, that copies of this Memorial be sent to <br />the President of the United States, the Governor of the State of <br />Colorado, each member of Congress from the State of Colorado, the <br />Executive Director of the Department of Natural Resources of the State <br />of Colorado, and the Colorado Water Conservation Board." <br /> <br />It has been signed by Fred E.
