I

Clyde-Sherard report, and a certain log of
the underground by the u.S.G.S., reported in
Water Supply Paper No. 1378, knowing also that
Riverside Reservoir has almost double the cross
section of permeable materials under the dikes
that the weld County site would have and that
the losses through this permeable material,
which is 5 miles in lineal distance, are from
25,000 to 35,000 acre-feet of water annually,
knowing they can be stopped by lining the
reservoir with an impermeable blanket or by
constructing a cutoff wall around the perimeter,
a few calculations revealed the following con-
ditions must exist. Now I want to point out,
you see those yellow lines shown on the Weld
County site (again referring to the maps on
the wall), Riverside Reservoir is built upon
a shelf and if we take the entire perimeter
of that there is possibly double the yeilo~
line under the dikes of the Riverside than
there is under the Weld county site.

(a) Very permeable gravels must exist
since there are no surface streams leaving
the reservoir embankments.

(b) The rate of flow must be very high.
(c) The area under and surrounding the
reservoir was over 5,000 acres.
(d) The water gravel coefficient must
be close to 20",{.

(e) The reservoir as far as surface
water was a little like an iceberg, most of
the storage was in the underground under and
in the lands surrounding the reservoir.

I

(f) How to divert this water into the
ditch at time of need?

A well was drilled resulting in close to
six cubic feet per second discharge convenient-
ly blanketed off by a clay strip under the
ditch to prevent recirculation, proving the
