reveal that the results as reported by them
favored the Narrows site by enlarging the
shortages of ditches below and decreasing
those needing the Weld county site.

I will divert again just a little bit here
and point out how that came about. In the I
area that is served by, the Bijou the method
was used and they arbitrarily signed that 100
kilowatt hours would gain an acre-foot of water
from the surface of the ground, in checking
through the actual pumping wells. The actua,l
pumping wells in the Bijou area at the time,
as near as I could substantiate by documented
evidence, was in the neighborhood of around
65 feet of net lift. By the constants that
were promoted in Water Supply Paper No. 1378,
this amounted to 157 kilowatt hours to get an
acre-foot, yet they used 100 hours and they
went over to the REA people and they went over
to Public Service and wherever there were
power records available and they said that
they pumped one million acre-feet of water to
get one million k~lowatt hours.' So if we use
the assigned figure of 100 kilowatt hours we
pump 10,000 acre-feet of water. Actually in
those areas, it required, according to the
best documents I can get, 157 kilowatt hours
to get tq~t same acre foot of water. Now,
gent+eme~, that is a considerable difference
in total volume pUl?ped.

I also found that along the riv~r, on the
lower lifts, down by Hillrose and in there,
that a ccmstaIlt of, 75:'~ilowC\tt hours was usual
for anacre-fQot of water and an evatRation
of the same Water Supp:!.y Paper 'No. ql18 re-
vealeq th~t, in some~nstances, it w~~ dowp
as low as "45 kilowatt -'hbl,lrstQ '~et ?ll{'pcre-'
foot. Again, the effect of that was to double I
the shortages on the one side and minimize '
them on the other.
