I

This financing program, that's our big
problem, as it is with everyone. We try to
look ahead and see what the needs will be
and to provide for them. I've found there
is a little weakness there. A good example
of it is this current fiscal year where the
Bureau of Reclamation required ten new gaging
stations at sites which were coming up for
study and the financing from both the state
side and the federal side was such that only
four of these stations can be put in this
year. The other six will have to be deferred
until next fiscal year or some later date.

I think by being with the Bureau a
little bit earlier and trying to work out
with them what their needs would be a little
further in advance we will be able to provide
the data that will be needed on schedule.

This year we inaugurated a new system of
publication. Some of you probably are
familiar with survey reports, annual reports,
and surface water supply papers that came out.
Publication was very slow. Frequently it was
eighteen months or two years after the close
of the water year before publication was avail-
able. The 1961 water year records have been
released in this new publication form and this
release is put out on a state-wide basis. All
of the stream flow records for the State of
Colorado are included in this publication.
Now the water year ended last September 30th
and this publication was distributed the
latter part of August. So there has been
considerable improvement in planning on re-
lease of this data and we expect to improve
that even more in future years - to make the
data available in published form six or seven
months after the close of the water year.
