..JV..JV

We have a very extensive program in
surface water at the present time with some-
thing over 300 gaging stations ih operation
on the streams to collect information on
quantities, distribution, both aerially and
by time, of the water resources of the state.

I

I suppose I should go into the Water
Board's program first on surface water work.
Of these 300 plus gaging statiohs, the Colo-
rado Water Conservation Board is the cooperat-
ing agency for about 79 of these gaging sta-
tions. There are some 80 of the stations,
over 80, that are financed by federal Geologi-
cal survey funds. The remainder by other
federal agencies and co-op programs with other
state agencies. The state Engineer's office
works with us on this program. They operate
and compute records for some 100 plus gaging
stations out of the total.

The Ground Water Branch is, of course,
interested in ground water as the name implies.
They have an extensive program in the state.
A good portion of it is in cooperation with
the Water Board.

The Quality of Water Branch is quite
limited in their activities. The other
branches furnish them some funds in connec-
tion wi th our programs. They have some
federal funds particularly in the Colorado
River Basin which are used for sediment and
chemical quality. There is a little work
going on in the South platte and the Arkansas
but that's very limited from the quality stand-
point.

The General Hydrology branch is concerned
with, as I said, special problems. They work
on stream morphology and soil moisture inves-
tigations and things of that type. They have
some projects underway in Colorado and others
on a nation-wide basis; information collected
and interpretations made can be applied to
some of the features of the state of Colorado.

I
