<br />. <br /> <br />Budget Update: We have tried to keep you apprised of activities at the Joint Budget Committee regarding <br />our budget and proposals to redirect Severance Tax funds we receive to the General Fund, <br /> <br />The latest development is a staff proposal to refinance the entire General Fund portion of the Administrative <br />subsection with Construction Funds, This amounts to another $1,2 million impact to the Fund, We will <br />supply you with a spreadsheet evaluating the possible cumulative impacts proposed actions could have, <br /> <br />Thus far, the actions appear to be: <br /> <br />. Divert one,half ofthe Perpetual Base Account to the General Fund (FY 02,03) ; <br /> <br />. Cap Operational Account expenditures (permanently beginning in FY 02,03); <br /> <br />. Replace General Funds with Construction Funds (FY 02,03); <br /> <br />. Supplemental requests by the SEO and the Attorney General for funds for litigation (FY 01,02); <br /> <br />Potential Internship Program: I met with Dr. Robert Ward from the CSU Water Resources Research <br />Institute about a potential internship program in 2002, At Dr. Ward's suggestion, each Section is submitting <br />concepts for projects that would require the services of a senior engineering graduate student. <br /> <br />The concepts would be reviewed and evaluated between January and March, Proposals would then be <br />submitted in the Spring and the students hired will work for us during the summer. We will continue to keep <br />you apprised of this effort. <br /> <br />Personnel Update: We have hired Brad Lundahl to be the new Director of the Conservation and Drought <br />Planning Section. Brad was a DNR Assistant Director. Before that he worked for the Arizona State Land <br />Board at the Arizona State Legislature. <br /> <br />We have also hired Bruce Johnson to be our new engineer in the Water Supply Planning and Finance <br />Section, He lives in Longmont. He serves on a ditch board, has a Masters Degree in Public Administration, <br />and previously worked in municipal and county government as well as in the private sector. <br /> <br />## <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />15 <br />
