<br />< <br /> <br />Northern High Plains-Eastern Cheyenne Designated Groundwater Basin covers the eastern part of the county. The <br />Great Plains Reservoirs are the central water feature. The county is affected by the outcome of the Kansas vs <br />Colorado litigation, <br /> <br />In regard to Flood Mitigation: two studies have been completed, Kiowa County is currently working with <br />Cheyenne and Lincoln Counties to develop a master plan for the three-county area. The county is <br />also affected by the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District Future Water Storage and Needs <br />Assessment StUdy (Phase I was completed in December, 1998, Phase II is in progress), the pending V,S, Forest <br />Service Federal Reserved Water Rights Claims for Water Division 2, and the operations of the Frying-Pan- <br />Arkansas Project (Turquoise and Twin lake Reservoirs), The county maybe affected by the outcome of the Kansas <br />vs Colorado Compact litigation, <br /> <br />Instream Flow Water Rights appropriated exclusively in this county total 140 miles and 38 stream segments. Staff is <br />currently working on 1998 Instream Flow Appropriations in this county, <br /> <br />Note: in reference to Instream Flow Water Rights, information listed above may not be inclusive of all water rights <br />in a given county since a stream segment may start in ODe county and end in another. <br /> <br />This county has three Designated Floodplain Studies affecting 40 stream reaches, The county participates in the <br />National Flood Insurance Program.
