The
committee recommended funding the full amount. The project consists
of building an irrigation system for watering 118 acres of campus lawns
with raw water instead of purchasing treated water from the City of
Greeley. Plans include expanding their xeriscape plots and the use of
telemetry to irrigate based on soil moisture content measures. The
project includes monitoring the change in water use and the utilization
of the latest technology.
Y.W Well Testing Association - requested $3,750. The committee
recommended finding the full amount. The project consists of
purchasing a laptop computer, software and portable printer to
improve the well testing program and computerize the gypsum block
calculations so these programs produce professional reports in the
field.
Bent Soil Conservation District. requested $36,480. The committee
recommended funding the full amount. The project consists of
demonstrating the applicability of surge technology on heavy textured
soils in Bent Soil Conservation District, documenting the impact of
surge irrigation technology on irrigation efficiency, farm economics,
management, plat-soil-water relationships, and develop the media
resources needed to convey this information to others. The project will
also evaluate the affects of surge technology on ground water resources
and irrigation return flows to Arkansas river.
Colorado State University Cooperative Extension - requested $37,760.
The committee recommended funding the fill amount. The project
consists of comparing subsurface micro-irrigation using two types of
buried driplines to each other and surface method of irrigation in
Delta. During each irrigation, water use and soil moisture tension will
be recorded for all methods to evaluate water use efficiency in terms
of production. Soil moisture distribution and salinity levels will be
monitored at three depths for each plot.

The motion was seconded by Janice Sheftel and the motion was passed
(7-0).

Ken Salazar, David Harrison, Jim Lochhead were absent

16.
