HEADLEY: <br /> <br />"Mr. Chairman, members of the Board, <br />ladies and gentlemen, I might start out by <br />saying that I took one trip over there to <br />Gunnison and I didn't know whether I'd come <br />back to Colorado or not eitherl That's quite <br />a place. <br /> <br />This report will be on Chatfield "and <br />the downstream channel project. However, <br />we have Mr. Thomas, the head of our Planning <br />and Reports Branch, here also to answer any <br />questions the Board might have on other <br />project planning in the state. <br /> <br />On Chatfield, our first earthwork con- <br />tract to construct the impervious cutoff <br />across the valley was completed last June. <br /> <br />Our second contract, which is now in <br />progress, will bring the embankment up to <br />elevation 5418. This contract is scheduled <br />for completion on 30 January 1969, but if <br />this kind of weather keeps up out here, he <br />should be done by the middle of December. <br /> <br />The third contract, which will comprise <br />the remaining items to complete the project <br />insofar as earth placement is concerned, will I <br />include the work required to top out the dam <br />at elevation 5527; construct the fill re- <br />quired to raise the Denver Rio Grande Western <br />Railroad to that same elevation; and construct ~ <br />a small dam and spillway in the Spring <br />Gulch area.
