I

I

MR. STAPLETON:

O~'&'l. -.

things that has occurred in the water devel-
opment field in the last seven or eight
years - the interest and construction of
these small tributary projects which contri-
bute both to our water supply and to the
elimination of the flood threats. The staff
of this Board has given every assistance to
the Soil Conservation Service and, when they
require our services which is almost weekly,
we contribute and will continue to contribute
hundreds of man hours towards helping them
develop these projects.

The Soil Conservation Service for
planning purposes has only a small staff.
We are supplementing the staff under their
direction to assist them in bringing the
projects to completion. This is making quite
a heavy drain on our own small staff, but we
consider it a matter of high priority.

On the other type of report mentioned
by Mr. Anderson, comprehensive reports, as
far as the western slope is concerned, we
have virtually completed the survey that we
were directed to make by the legislature.
Reports have been prepared now on all the
major river basins of the Colorado River
with the exception of the southwestern part
of the state - the San Juan, Dolores, San
Miguel area. That is well under way. Those
reports are also being used at a rapid rate.
The Gunnisor, River report has be-en out of
print, but a new supply has been printed.
Those reports are used quite extensively by
agricultural and industrial interests. This
is a comprehensive survey being done under a
cooperative venture with the Department of
Agriculture and this Board."

"Thank you, Larry.

The Corps of Engineers, Omaha District,
have the responsibility for the Chatfield
flood control project.
