recreation. The structural site is located
immediately south of Elizabeth. Investiga-
tions have been completed on four other
sites involving only flood prevention.

I

Box Elder Watershed. This watershed
is located northeast of Fort Collins, Colo-
rado. Preliminary field investigations
indicate project feasibility for five flood-
water retarding structures. Land rights and
easements have been obtained for most struc-
tural sites. Approval for developing a work
plan has been requested from the Administra-
tor of the Soil Conservation Service.

Sedgwick-Sand Draw Watershed. This
watershed drains into the South Platte
River from the north in the vicinity of Ovid,
Colorado. Preliminary field investigations
indicate project feasibility for 12 flood-
water retarding structures. The watershed
heads in Nebraska. Sponsors are proceeding
with the formation of a conservancy district
to handle non-federal responsibilities.

Black Squirrel Watershed. This project,
located east of Colorado Springs in the
vicinity of Ellicott, colorado, indicates
that four floodwater retarding dams are
feasible, one of which would be multipurpose
including storage for fish and wildlife and
recreation. The State Fish, Game and Parks
Division is cooperating in preparing plans
for the multipurpose structure. The work
plan for this project is nearing completion.

I

Western Canal Watershed. Sponsors of
this project near Fort Lupton, Colorado,
desired to realign and place concrete lining
in the main distribution canal that is sup-
plied by the South Platte River. Field
studies indicated the project is not
economically feasible and sponsors have
been advised accordingly.
