<br />recreation. The structural site is located <br />immediately south of Elizabeth. Investiga- <br />tions have been completed on four other <br />sites involving only flood prevention. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Box Elder Watershed. This watershed <br />is located northeast of Fort Collins, Colo- <br />rado. Preliminary field investigations <br />indicate project feasibility for five flood- <br />water retarding structures. Land rights and <br />easements have been obtained for most struc- <br />tural sites. Approval for developing a work <br />plan has been requested from the Administra- <br />tor of the Soil Conservation Service. <br /> <br />Sedgwick-Sand Draw Watershed. This <br />watershed drains into the South Platte <br />River from the north in the vicinity of Ovid, <br />Colorado. Preliminary field investigations <br />indicate project feasibility for 12 flood- <br />water retarding structures. The watershed <br />heads in Nebraska. Sponsors are proceeding <br />with the formation of a conservancy district <br />to handle non-federal responsibilities. <br /> <br />Black Squirrel Watershed. This project, <br />located east of Colorado Springs in the <br />vicinity of Ellicott, colorado, indicates <br />that four floodwater retarding dams are <br />feasible, one of which would be multipurpose <br />including storage for fish and wildlife and <br />recreation. The State Fish, Game and Parks <br />Division is cooperating in preparing plans <br />for the multipurpose structure. The work <br />plan for this project is nearing completion. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Western Canal Watershed. Sponsors of <br />this project near Fort Lupton, Colorado, <br />desired to realign and place concrete lining <br />in the main distribution canal that is sup- <br />plied by the South Platte River. Field <br />studies indicated the project is not <br />economically feasible and sponsors have <br />been advised accordingly. <br />
