Enclosed is a cop,r of the resolution that was
passed by the Gunnison Watershed Conservation Com-
mittee at a meeting held on April 22nd.

This resolution was passed after the committee
held'a series of meetings throughout the Gunnison
area. At these meetings the people of the area
were given the 9Pportunity to express tlieir wishes
with respect to the large Curecanti Dam. .

RESOLUTIoN

WHEREAS, in 1951 the Gunnhon Watershed Coo- .
servation Committee passed a Re'lolution in support
of the construction of a Curecanti Dam and Reservoir
with a high water. level of appr~ximately 7,520 feet
above sea level, affording total storage capacity in.
the neighborhood of 940,000 acr~-feet; and

WHEREAS, it has been the d~sire of the members of
this CoIiuni ttee to ascertain the present attitude of
the residents of the upper Gunntson Watershed area
pn the question of the constructi9n of a larger Cure-
canti Reservoir with a storage capacity of approxi-
mately 2,500,000 ~cre-feet, and in 9rder to ascertain
the present attitude of the peoDle, a number of meet-
ings have been held at various Do~ts in the area, and
the opinion of various active representative organiza~
tions has been sought and obtained, and as a result of
such meetings, it appears that the people of the area
are overvrhelmingiy against the erection of the larger
Curecanti Dam.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Gunnison
Watershed Conservation Committee reaffirms its com-
mitment not to oppose the smaller dam and reservoir
of not to exceed 940,000 acre-feet capacity, bu~ is
unalterably opposed to the construction of a dam and
reservoir at or near Curecanti in exc,ess of that capa-
city.
