't.~

Mr. Gildersleeve: "It covers all the irrigated area which
would have the most influence on the Rio Grande Compact.
It takes in the area from the highest diversion from .the
Rio Grande down to the state line."

;~r. Crawford: "This contract was made at the suggestion
of Mr. Tipton. We should also say that these photographs
must be taken within certain time limits this su~ner."

I

.
Mr. Bailey: "Do you want to postpone consideration of
this until Mr. Tipton gets here?"

Mr. Dunbar: "I would be better satisfied.~

Mr. Bailey: "We will postpone further consideration of
this item until Mr. Tipton comes. I understand that ,there
are some people here from the Trinidad area, therefore we
will pass to the Trinidad project. I will ask Mr. Gilder-
sleeve to give a summary of that situation."

4. Trinidad Project.

Mr. Gildersleeve gave a summary and discussed:in full the
Trinidad project from a memoraridum which he had prepared
for the information of the Board.

Mr. Bailey: "Is there someone here from the Corps of En-
gineers that would answer questions? There is a statement
here on page 4 of Mr. Gildersleeve's sum:nary, "an amount
of $1,000 has been added to annual charges:to accoun~ for
possible loss of taxes", and I don't quite understand what
that means. Also there are coal deposits in :the reservoir
area for which reimbursement is to be made."

. .
Mr. Redmond: "The reason being that in our cost estimate
we have accounted for all costs in the area. I "believe
that is further explained in the ~conomic appendix of the
report. In estimating the land and the requirements 'for
the reservoir area we have taken into consideration the
amount required to reimburse the mineral r~ghts in t~e
area."

Mr. Bailey: "How much does that amount to?"

Mr. Redmond: 7We have brought that appraisal up to
date. The exact amount I don't have available."

Mr. Bailey: '~'ho owns those lands?"

r

Mr. Redmond: "The maj,or portion of those lands are owned
by the C.F. & I. and Union Pacific Railroad Company.
Those are the two big owners, I believe. I qould ge~ that
information. We have a lump sum total in the report of
which the amount for coal lands would probably be a good
share. The estimated cost is $2,004,000 for lands and rights-
of-way."
