I

Mr. Bailey: "What projects do you want to see started
before you give your endorsements?"

Mr. Moses: "It seems to me, and I am not yet in a.
position to make a selection yet, we either have to take
the selection of the local interests without question of
what seems to be the preferable thing to d~ or to keep
the preference of the local interest. It seems to me that
this matter is an important one."

Mr. Bailey: "Any questions in anyone's mind about this?
What competition is there for these funds that are mentioned
here? Maybe there is a competition here that we don't know
about. "

Mr. Crawford: "We have been before the Sub-committee of
the Interior and Insular Affairs on Appropriations with
regard to those six units now under study and I requested
funds for them because they are almost through."

Mr. Peterson: "I am a member of the Colorado Water
Conservancy district and there is no competition. There is
one thing that is of concern to us. We know that the basin
investigation will take a long time and I am just wondering
if it isn't possible :that the participating projects in the
upper states will be put up for authorization. It looks to
me like that fund could be divided some way."

Mr. Dutcher: "So far as
River are concerned, the
situation. We certainly
included along with that
acute situation."

other projects on the Gunnison
Ohio Project is in a very acute
would like to have that Ohio project
investigation, becuase it is an
-

Mr. Crawford: "Don't the people on the Colorado main stem
want the Rabbit Ear Unit?"

I

Mr. Merriell: "The situation on the Rabbit Ear is that it
is a large rolling area. The water users built a lot of
reservoirs in there. It was the consensus of opinion of
the members of the committee that they were doing pretty
well on their own. One or two reservoirs should be built
there. I can assure you that 200 or more reservoirs have
been built or enlarged in the Colorado River basin. This
Cliffs-Divide report considers only irrigation."

..J.I"

,-
