<br />I <br /> <br />and the Arkansas River Compact Administration. <br />It is felt that this coordination is absolutely <br />necessary before other actions can be taken and <br />this coordination probably will be accomplished <br />during the months of May, June and July, accord- <br />ing to a tentative schedule presented by the <br />Acting Director of the Colorado Water Conserva- <br />tion Board. <br /> <br />Following those meetings, during the last <br />half of Calendar Year 1963, further action is <br />contemplated by ~le Conservancy District to move <br />the point of storage of the Model Reservoir <br />decree to the Trinidad Reservoir site and later <br />the contract, we hope, may be finalized as the <br />irrigation contract. This will permit, if <br />accomplished, the project to be initiated; that <br />is, the construction to be initiated, early <br />next year provided funds are made available. <br />At the present time, as you recall having been <br />reported previously, there are no funds included, <br />that is, construction funds, in the 1964 budget <br />for initiation of construction of the Trinidad <br />Project and if we do initiate construction, <br />obviously it will be made available or brought <br />about by unbudgeted funds which we sincerely <br />hope are made available. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Concerning our General Investigations pro- <br />gram, we have continued investigations on the <br />flood and related problems on the Arkansas River <br />and tributaries above John Martin Reservoir. As <br />previously reported, consideration is being given <br />to channel and major drainage improvements in <br />certain agricultural reaches along the Arkansas <br />River and tributaries and improvements for pro- <br />tection of urban areas in the basin. Studies <br />have not yet advanced to the point necessary to <br />determine the location and type of improvements <br />required or the economic feasibility. It is <br />anticipated that the rate of progress on the <br />study will be increased during the remainder of <br />the fiscal year. <br /> <br />I might add at this point that we have funds <br />in the 1964 budget, and anticipate getting a <br />sizeable amount of funds, for the further <br />
