I

very mediocre runoff and allowing for some
storage in Flaming Gorge and Navajo Reservoirs,
we should be able to store about 5 million acre-
feet in Lake Powell by midsummer and we would
hope to reach the minimum power pool level, which
is 6 million acre-feet of water in Powell Reser-
voir, at an elevation of 3,490, early in 1964.

As you know, the filling criteria requires
that the rated head be maintained at Lake Mead.
This contains 14.5 million acre-feet at an eleva-
tion of 1,123 feet. Once the minimum power pool
level is reached in Glen our problem is sub-
stantially over with. The elevation of Lake
Mead, we anticipate, will be dropping below
rated-head level about the beginning of next
year's snowmelt runoff or about this time. Thus,
the acquisition of the minimum power pool in
Lake Powell is somewhat critical. However, we
estimate that we will be able to generate from
Glen Canyon in the midsummer of 1964 as scheduled.

Now going to Lake powell, I think these
items are of interest. By midsummer we estimate
that Lake Powell will be 150 miles long and will
contain about 65 square miles of water surface.
Already the reservoir is being used by recrea-
tionists and boating enthusiasts and of interest
to fishermen, already 700,000 small trout have
been planted in the reservoir. By August,
through the cooperation of the states of Utah
and Arizona and the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Ser-
vice, we hope to have 8 million trout planted
in this reservoir.

I

Moving on to Flaming Gorge, power is
scheduled to be produced from there in September.
The concrete deck on the spillway bridge, the
last link across the dam, was finished this month.
This provides for limited access across the dam
and we hope to have unrestricted public access by
August. Iii thin the powerhouse the completion
contractor is working on installation of the
generators, and in the switchyard area trans-
mission towers are being erected.

At the present time Flaming Gorge Reservoir
