~

pa ge 3

6. Presently, municipalities and energy companies are acquiring I1ater rights

from farmers and ranchers thereby taking agricultural land out of production.

Very little agricultural production would be eliminated with construction of

the Dominguez Reservoir and in fact it could eliminate the need for continued

purchase of water rights upstream on the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers and

their tributaries.

7. The Grand Junction area is growing very rapidly, and a need exists for

an increased supply of dependable domestic and industrial water. In

addition, the pominguez Reservoir could supply additional power and recreation

facilities for a growing population. Likewise it could enable the western

slope to continue to be a major contributor to the State of Colorado's

economy.

8. The users of the power and domestic and industrial water, would event-

ually repay the overall cost of the Dominguez Project.

9. Our committee requests the State of Colorado's support and participation

in the project.

10. We need to utilize this natural water resource which goes by our door

every day, and we respectfully request your help.

Mesa County Dominguez Reservoir
Advisory Committee,

M. o. Bro~lIl, Chairman
P.O. Box 1330
Grand Junction, Colorado 81502
