'""i',,"-.J..U

Work on th~ Fryingpan-Arkansas Project
is continuing. The court conl;irmation of the
repayment contract has been sche4uled for
April 15th. The work on the fie,ld office at
Ruedi Reservoir is nearing completi9n. The
contractor for Ruedi Dam is, of course, faced
with the high runoff that is estimated for
thi,s spring and early summer. His plans call
for diversion of the river sometime during
this summer. It now appears that it will be
late in July or the 1st of August before he
can handle this diversion. So he has his work
cut out for him on this problem. We hope he
will be successful in accomplishing the div~r-
sion this season.

The mapping work on the project is pro-
ceeding. It is very important for us to ob-
tain topography and field data on which to
base our designs for the east side system
involving advance works and powerplants. It
is typical in the preparation of final plans
in a project of this type, to examine the
formulation of the plan and to make certain
that each increment we add is sound economi-
cally and physically. In this process we
have been examining the design of the power
system. This is going to depend in some
measure on the availability of aerial topo-
graphy. We have had some reports that we are
studying the elimination of power on the Fry-
ingpan-Arkansas project. This is not so.
Specifically we must examine these features
to be sure of what we feel is the best possible
facility physically and economically. As you
well know, the repayment of the Fry-Ark Project
is dependent upon the production of power to
provide additional'. repayment within the 50-
year period.

Our efforts are directed toward making
this as sound a project as we possibly can.

We have cleared the way for initiation
of acquisition of rights-of-way for the dam
at Sugar Loaf from the Colorado Fuel and Iron.

I

I
