On April 8th we did open bids for con-
struction of the rather difficult access road
into Crystal Dam site. This will be the first
construction activity on this structure. We
anticipate that bids will be called for the
dam proper later on this summer or early fall.
six bids were received for the road work and I
the low bid was submitted by the H-E Lowder-
milk Company of Englewood, Colorado, in the
amount of $936,269.

Moving on to our silt Project, work was
accelerated during March. The contractor
concentrated his efforts principally on the
cutoff trench and on highway excavation. The
tunnel subcontractor did hole through the
diversion tunnel and it is hoped that we can
start the placing of the pervious materials
for the dam embankment during this month. Con-
creting operations on the diversion tunnel and
other structures at the dam are scheduled to
be initiated late this month.

During the past two months' period a con-
tract was awarded on the Silt pump Canal. This
is a feature of the Silt Project and we did
open bids on April 6th for reconstruction of
6 miles of the existing Davie Ditch, an addi-
tional feature of the Silt project. The low
bid submitted was in the amount of $308,000.

Moving on to our reservoir operations, as
I previously mentioned, four units are in oper-
ation and generating commercial power at Glen
Canyon Dam. This power is being transmitted
to the full capacity of existing transmission
lines. Lake Powell is being maintained at
approximately elevation 3,490, and where neces-
sary, water is being bypassed from time to
time. Some small amounts of bypass were made I
in late December 1964, mid-February and early
March 1965. An additional bypass was initiated
the last of March. These nonpower releases
will probably be continued during the spring
runoff period in order to return Lake Mead to
its rated head as soon as possible.
