1340

,

MR. STAPLETON:

We are in the process at the present
time of preparing a large scale map
showing all the Federal land in this
State and all special use land, such as
national parks, national monuments,
scenic, primitive, wilderness, experi- ,
mental forests, and so on. We will plot
all those in on this map. On that map
we will plot in every water project we
now have under contemplation in the State
of Colorado so that we can tell at a
glance what access is needed across ex-
isting special use areas and across
national forest areas so that we can
graphically portray the effect of this
bill upon our water resource development.

I

Mr. Barnard is busily engaged in col-
lecting all information at the hearings
that were held this past summer on that
bill and all past hearings concerning it.
We have received some private information
that he will probably have to go to Wash-
ington and dig out some things that govern-
mental agencies have put out on that bill.
That matter will come to a head some time
this month and when it does, then that in-
formation will be summarized to this'Board.
I am certainly glad that was brought up and
I think John would nave brought it up. We
do want to document special instances in
which existing preas have already handi-
capped development. We have heard of sev-
eral instances where we have had a lot of
trouble, people have had trouble with ex-
isting special use areas in the State of
Colorado. We would like to get correspon-
dence in which the Forest Service..has said
you can't do ~his or do that. ~e under-
stand that many of those instances already
exist and we are trying to document that
type of evidence right now. If certain
of the Board members have information,
perhaps, of instances where that has oc-
curred in the past, we would like to in-
terview the person who had the trouble and
we would like to get the correspondence
that he has had with federal agencies with
reference to this type of thing."

I

"Was Mr. Saunders appointed to that
commi ttee?"
